PVB Interlayer for Panoramic Roof Glass

S-LEC™PVB interlayer film for laminated glass provides a variety of functions and values.

Compared to conventional roof glass, a panoramic fixed glass roof offers many advantages, such as a reduction of parts, a streamlined exterior and increased interior headspace and an open driving experience for the driver/passenger. On the other hand, as the size of the roof glass increases, the glass is required to have various functions, performance and design features, such as safety, light optimization, solar control, sound acoustic, combined with automotive smart glass technologies such as switchable technology.

S-LEC™ film, PVB interlayer for laminated glass, ensures that glass remains bonded to the film in case of breakage, making it a safer product for large roof components. Laminated glass with S-LEC™ film can block up to 99% of UV, which renders the internal sunshade redundant. S-LEC™ film offers a variety of solutions for a wide range of needs for panoramic roof glass

S-LEC™ Interlayer Solution for Switchable Technology

Comparison diagram that can achieve natural and natural colours by switching PDLC

Switchable technology enables instinct privacy when required and is increasingly used in the automotive market, but it requires a thinner film as well as 0.76mm. SEKISUI S-LEC can provide a thinner PVB film of 0.38mm for numerous efficient roof system developments with switchable glass.

Typically, Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal (PDLC) is whitish in appearance and can be combined with grey for any Tvis preference. SEKISUI S-LEC has lineups of bronze films to cancel the blue tint to combat the vivid blue appearance of Electrochromic (EC) and Suspended Particle Device (SPD). These combinations make the appearance of a glass more neutral and natural.

Enhanced Comfort

Wind tunnel test using paranomic rooflite with S-LEC™ Sound Acoustic Film
Sound Acoustic for laminated glass Acoustic Benefits

Environmental conditions such as wind friction and raindrop create noise experienced inside a vehicle. The current trend for panoramic roof glass can intensify the noise level.

In the vehicle test at a wind tunnel, S-LEC™ Sound Acoustic Film shows an improvement in noise levels. The data shows an approximate 3dB improvement in sound pressure in the car, equivalent to a 3.7% improvement in articulation index(AI) compared to a  roof glass without an acoustic PVB interlayer. The AI is used to quantify the ease of conversation inside the vehicle achieved by good sound insulation.

We are confident in our results and would happily share the details with you upon request. Please feel free to reach out to us for more information.

S-LEC™ Solar Control Film that effectively cuts near-infrared rays (NIR) on rooflite
Solar Control Performance for laminated glass Thermal Comfort

With the larger size of panoramic roof glass, blocking energy from the sun’s rays is even more critical to provide consistent thermal comfort inside the vehicle. S-LEC™ Solar Control Film can block infrared rays effectively. This reduction in infrared rays inside the car contributes to a reduced need for an air conditioner and, thus, energy saving on the electric motor to improve the EV driving range.

Design

Colour matching between the windshield and paranomic roof glass

SEKISUI S-LEC offers a wide selection of visible light transmittance values to match specific market and model preferences. Custom colour development is also possible.

S-LEC™ Wide Gradient Film can be colour matched to create the flush all-glass-roofs aesthetic from windshield to rooflite.

Low haze performance of S-LEC™ dark colour films

Haze occurs when tiny amounts of light are scattered by the glass, causing a small amount of glare. S-LEC™ Films have minimal haze level. Haze performance is more crucial as other technologies are combined.

Solar Control Performance for laminated glass Solar Control

Laminated glass with S-LEC™ Solar Control Film blocks infrared and UV (ultraviolet) rays but allows visible light rays for optical clarity without blocking the electromagnetic transmissions necessary for mobile phone and sensor communication. Solar absorbing glass realized by S-LEC™ Solar Control Film protects people because the cabin or space stays cooler and your skin does not burn.
